The Peer Advocate provides superior patient support, patient advocacy as well as emotional and educational support.
The Peer Advocate equipped with an understanding as an amputee provides patient consultation, comfort, and guidance through the spectrum of initial patient referral and interaction, surgery, recovery, rehab, and gait training. The Peer Advocate will provide the highest level of customer/client service to prosthetic patients, sources, and colleagues through the coordination and administration of prosthetic patient referral. This position will service Conroe, Spring, and the northwest portion of Houston, TX.
Responsibilities
Visit with new amputees at medical facilities and/or the patient home.
Discuss informational brochures with patient to provide greater knowledge regarding the patient's limb loss.
Document visit with patient using the Subjective Objective Assessment Plan (SOAP) format.
Complete Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) membership forms for patient and submit to ACA.
Participate, provide support and may lead in-services as directed / advised by the Business Development Manager.
Accompany Business Development Managers and / or clinicians as they visit patients, clinic, and physicians.
Communicate and update appropriate office, clinician and OA staff regarding their visit with the patient.
Remain accessible via phone, email, text to patients and referral sources and provide contact information for after-hours emergencies.
Provide resources and connect patients and family members to amputee support groups, Ampower volunteers, and/or grief support options.
Ensure the privacy and security of protected health information per HIPAA rules.
Assist with patient follow-up as directed.
Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain customer relations
Strong customer service skills.
Experience interfacing with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and various clinical support personnel.
Ability/willingness to work with handicapped individuals.
Ability to use a computer, including Windows-based software and e-mail.
Ability to use all necessary office equipment.
Non revoked, valid passenger vehicle driver's license
High school education or equivalent.
Personally experienced loss of limb.
Associate degree preferred.
Experience in health care preferred.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
